Dr. Yuko Nakanishi is a distinguished expert in transportation security, preparedness training, and research. With extensive experience in the transportation industry, she has contributed to numerous high-impact projects as a prime contractor and key team member.

Her research portfolio includes significant contributions to transportation security and emergency preparedness, with projects such as Routes to Ending Child Trafficking in Transportation, a federally funded national initiative led by PACT, Security 101 – A Physical & Cyber Security Primer for Transportation, A Guide to Emergency Management at State Transportation Agencies, and Effective Practices for the Protection of Transportation Infrastructure from Cyber Incidents.

Previously, Dr. Nakanishi held academic and leadership positions including Assistant Director of Research at the Region 2 University Transportation Research Center, Adjunct Professor at New York University, and Associate Staff Analyst at MTA NYC Transit. Her research has been published extensively by the Transportation Research Board.

In her volunteer work, Dr. Nakanishi is a member of the National Academies Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Rail Transit Infrastructure Design and Maintenance. She has formerly served as Chair of the TRB Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Protection, its Training, Education, and Technology Transfer Subcommittee and Editor of a TR News special issue on transit security training. As an appointed Panel Member of the NCHRP 20-59 Project Panel on Surface Transportation Security, she provided all hazards, all modes oversight and project selection guidance. She has also served on individual Cooperative Research Program project panels including the TCRP A36 Command-Level Decision Making for Transit Emergency Managers.

As Past President and Board Member of ITS-New York – a transportation technology association, Dr. Nakanishi initiated strategic planning, expanded membership, and managed the annual conferences and workshops.

Dr. Nakanishi holds a Ph.D. in Transportation Planning and Engineering from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, an M.S. in Civil Engineering - Transportation from City College of New York, an MBA in Management from Columbia University, and an A.B. in English Literature from Harvard University.
